Publish options for post types

When publishing a post of any post type you have some advanced options which are explained here.

The Publish box in the top right side of a post edit page

Status

A post can have different statuses. When you start a new post the status will automatically set to Draft until the post is Publish the first time. When you are working on a post that you don’t want to publish immediately, you can click the Safe Draft button. The post will keep it’s status Draft, but is saved and visible in the Posts overview of the post type.

When you press the blue Publish button the first time, the status of the post is changed to Published. The label of the publish button changes to Update.

When a post is created by a user with the role Contributor the post will get the status Pending review. A post with this status can be published by a user with the Editor role.

Visibility

Next to Status the visibility of a post can be set. There are three options, but only two should be used. By default a post gets the visibility Public. This means that anyone can see the page. If you want the page to be only visible to logged in users, you can change the visibility to Private.

When you change the visibility of a published post to Private, the post isn’t visible to the public anymore and will lead visitors to a 404 not found page.

Publish date

You can change the publish date of a post by editing the date next to Publish (or Published on when a post is already published). When a post is still in Draft the date can be set to the future. The Publish button will change to Schedule. This gives you the option to make a post and let it publish automatically on a later date. When you schedule a post in the future, it will be posted around the time that is set.

When you change the date of a published published post to a date in the future, the post isn’t visible to the public anymore and will lead visitors to a 404 not found page.

Translation options

Because the website is available for different countries and different languages there is a tool to manage the translations. This is something that is only done by the digital markering manager. For that reason, the checkboxes about the Translations should be left as they are.

The checkbox Send all the translations to trash when this post is trashed can delete content on other website, please do not check this checkbox
